Tips for making the most of your photos:

LOCATION: When it comes to the location of your shoot, you should choose a place that is reflective of you. Whether it be an urban scene, a park or a panoramic setting, it should be somewhere you feel comfortable and are willing to let your personality come alive. Your personality will be the best part of the pictures. Long gone are the days of studio shoots of family/senior/business photos where you are stuck in a chair with a gray background that does nothing for one’s complexion. The possibilities are endless.

CLOTHING: Although I do love the occasional crazy photo shoot where my subject is wearing bright pink gloves and a top hat with veil, most people would like to not dress quite so loud. If you are wondering what to wear, I will tell you 2 things: 1. You want it to be timeless. Photos last for a really really long time, and if you are jazzed about your great great grand children knowing how much you loved Justin Bieber or lime green, then by all means, thrown on the t-shirt. However, I am a big fan of the simple and classic. I want the focus of the photo to be you, not your bedazzled denim blazer. (Note: Please throw away your bedazzled denim blazer.) 2. Let it be you. Keep your same style of clothing. If you don't like dresses and feel uncomfortable in one, don’t throw one on for your pictures. If you haven't worn a tie since your 6th grade graduation, don’t suffer through a few hours of being choked by one. If it isn't your personality, stay away from it.

TIMING: The time of day that you would like your photo session to take place will be left to your discretion. If you want a sunrise or sunset shoot, then, by all means, you can have one. I would suggest, however, that you take into consideration when the sun will be at its hottest. Photos of you sweating are probably not the look you’re going for. If they are, high noon would probably be the perfect time for you.

CHILDREN: Children are an absolute blast to photograph. However as anyone with children can attest to, kids can be easily distracted, or become very cranky when they are bored and or hungry. So when sessions with the little ones are involved I recommend bringing snacks and some of their favorite toys as well. Anything you can bring to keep your children in the best of moods, so that their best can come through in the photographs, would be a fantastic idea.

If you have any other questions, concerns, ideas, or you just want to tell me how wonderful you think I am(wink wink), I would love to hear all of it. Please feel free to email me at katie@katiefosterphotography.com
